Kildorrery Festival Cancelled

It is with regret that The Spirit of Kildorrery Festival Committee has decided to cancel this year’s festival. The weekend was due to run from the 2nd to the 4th of July with events in the Marquee and children’s events running throughout the weekend. However, due to the high cost of running an event of this nature, there was a real risk that a loss would be made. The bar on the Saturday night was the primary source of income for the festival in previous years, and as we had not yet managed to secure a licence through the courts at this late stage, it was felt that we ran a real risk of making a loss. It was also proving increasingly difficult to sell tickets as people just don’t have the disposable income that they had in previous years.

The Spirit of Kildorrery Festival started three years ago and ran two hugely successful festivals raising money for Kildorrery GAA and Kildorrery Aid Chernobyl. The Committee would like to thank all the businesses and community members who supported the festival over the years. We apologise to everyone who was looking forward to the festival but we felt it was better to make this decision now rather then make a loss which would put further financial pressure on the two charities involved.

Tickets on Sale for 2010 festival!

Tickets are now on sale for what promises to be our most exciting festival yet! We have a great line-up in the Marquee which we hope will suit all tastes. Comedian JON KENNY will be in the Marquee on friday 2nd July with his Hilarious new show. He is back and better then ever! Tickets are priced at €15 and a great night of laughs is guranteed! Doors open at 9pm. This is a non-alcoholic event and under 18s are more then welcome.

Saturday the 3rd July sees the return of the ever popular Barbeque! This year we have the amazing REBEL HEARTS playing. Rebel Hearts are well known as one of the best rebel bands around and we are delighted to have them. Tickets are priced at €20 which includes all you can eat bbq food and DJ Dinnie O Dea will play into the night after the band. Gates open at 9.30pm. Just a reminder that tickets are not for sale on the night and have to be pre-purchased so be sure to pick yours up early to avoud disappointment. This is an over 18s event.

Open Garden

Helen gallagher has kindly offered to open her garden to the public for one day only! This is a fantastic opportunity for gardening enthusiasts to have a look around this fantastic garden and maybe even pick up some tips! Helen will be on hand to give advice and we are hoping that Charlie Wilkins will be able to attend as well! There will be refreshments served and stalls selling unusual plants and home baking. Spread the word to anyone you know who is interested in gardening as this will be a wonderful way to spend a Sunday afternoon. Entry to the garden is just €5. Hope to see you there!

Wii Bowling Blitz!!!

Do you fancy yourself as a bit of a Wii Whiz?! Well what better way to test your skill then taking part in Kildorrerys first ever Wii Bowling Blitz! The Bowling Alley will be located in Ollies Bar Kildorrery on Tuesday 16th March (the night before St. Patricks Day). First game at 9pm sharp. We will have one or two Wii’s depending on the number of teams who register and if there is enough interest it will cary on to a second night! To register a team of 4 contact Nora on 0871319537. it costs €20 per team and book early as the first night is filling up fast!

This years festival will run from the 2nd to the 4th of July and promises to be bigger and better then the previous years – with big acts confirmed for the Friday and Saturday nights in the Marquee! All anouncements will be made here on the blog first! We are very excited about expanding the festival and hope that by bringing a bigger variety of acts to the village, we will be able to cater for all tastes! The committee are working away organising fundraisers and events for the coming year – we will post any announcements up here as soon as we can!

Santa visits the Village!

Last Sunday 6th December there was a very special visitor to Kildorrery! Santa Clause arrived in the village just after two o clock on his motorbike after making the long journey down from the North Pole to Kildorrery Community hall. He was escorted into the Village by the Guardi. There was great excitement when Santa arrived – he even gave everyone who was there to meet him candy canes which he brought from the NorthPole!

All the kids who went in to see Santa got a gift and a photo. While kids were waiting to see santa in his grotto, they got to make christmas decorations, decorate cakes, make a photo frame, get their face painted and get a balloon animal made. A huge thank you to all of the elves who made the day really special – and a special thank you to the teachers from Kildorrery NS who came down and helped the kids with the craft workshops.

There was a special treat when the Children from Kildorrery NS sang some beautiful Christmas Carols and they really kept everyone entertained and got us all in the Christmas Spirit. The parents were served mulled wine, tea and cakes and all in all there was a lovely Christmas atmosphere throughout the day. Everyone on the Spirit of Kildorrery festival Committee would like to thank everyone who came and made the day so special, especially Santa for making the journey and meeting us all in Kildorrery. We hope he will come again next year!

Friday the 13th BINGO!

Will it be lucky for you?!

On Friday 13th of November we are having our first ever Bingo night!

It should be a great night and will be perfect for anyone who is a regular Bingo goer as well as first timers! We have a really experienced caller, John O Donovan coming from Shanballymore, and we will of course be serving teas and coffees afterwards! It will be on in the Community hall in Kildorrery Village and is starting at 8pm Sharp! There are cash prizes on the night and we will be having a raffle so come along and try your luck!

The Bingo Night is the first fundraiser for the 2010 Spirit of Kildorrery festival. We have discussed some really exciting ideas at our meetings so keep an eye on the blog for more announcements!

Kidzmania 2008

Hi everyone! Welcome to The Spirit of Kildorrery Festival’s new Blog, where we will keep you up to date with upcoming events and announcements for the 2010 festival. We would also love to hear from you so if you have any ideas for next years festival or would like to join the committee leave a comment!

The Spitit of Kildorrery Festival Committee started in 2007 with the intention of renewing the longstanding tradition of a midsummer festival in the village. With the help of Kildorrery GAA and Kildorrery Aid Chernobyl we have successfully held two great festivals. We hope to make the 2010 festival even bigger and better! We are always interested in hearing from people who might have ideas for events or fundraising ideas – especially people who are new to the village and may bring some fresh ideas with them! This blog is a space where we can share information and ideas so please please leave a comment! We will post announcements of fundraising events here on the blog so keep an eye here for some fun events that will be happening throughout the year!
